Tourism
In 1993 w t o suggested official definition of tourism as:
'tourism is an activity of person traveling to and staying
in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive
year for leisure, business or any other purpose.
The word "tourism did not appear in English until the
early 19th century the word was derived from French language
"tourisme"
Tourism is related to travelling and travelling is naturally
a human character. Man needs change and travel provides the change.
Travel has had fascinates for man. he has been travelling
throughout the ages. "The concept of pleasure at leisure 'was introduced
in modern era.
History of
Travel
The word travel derived from French word "travail"
which means 'toil and labor'.Pre historic people moved about in search of food and
shelter. Their travels were by no means pleasant.
Camel were favored pack animal -a healthy one could carry up
to 600 pounds of cargo.
The Romans was the first to travel on land on a large scale.
Their desire to expand the roman empire. With the growth of organized religion
different religious people like Muslim, Christian starts travelling Europe and
beyond.
By 13th century trade had emerged as the prime reason for
travel. after improvement of navigation skills and development of magnetic
compass.
In the beginning of 14th century Italy started travel for
culture and artistic reason "the grand tour" started to paris,rome
florance,munich Vienna and other cites of central Europe. Fashionable tour
shops, resorts and spas were developed.

Transportation Revolution
Steamship:
17th & 18th century ,Sirius in 1838 Europe and America connected .1840
Samuel canard.on 14th April 1912 the largest ship carry more than 2000
passenger and crew member was struck an iceberg and sank. Only 705 people
survived.
Railroads: First
working built in England 1804,by the half of 19th century Europe and else were
rapidly build up.
Airplanes:
the end of the first world war marked the beginning of commercial aviation on
both side of Atlantic .in 1919 the British lunched their first trans -channel
commercial flight linking the business capital of London & Paris.
Automobiles:
the first automobiles were build in France. The early 'pengeot cars' build in
1889,were heavy & powered by steam engines.
