Development of
Tourism in Nepal
Nepal was a place that was waiting to be explore, mapped and
measured but the country was forbidden not only politically but also by nature.
in 1843 "MT Everest" a British surveyor measured the highest pick of
the world in Nepal.
Only in 1941 Nepal opened its door to outsider but it was
only for the expedition purpose. The successful expedition of Annapurna of 1950
and the Everest expedition of 1953 made sherpas and Nepal more popular.
Democratic movement of 1951 marked a new era. Administrative
system of Nepal and the way to look at foreigner has been changed.
Mr Nara Shamser ,who had travelled abroad and had extended
relationship outside Nepal, felt the need of quality hotels in Kathmandu.he
trained some cook and waiters and opened hotel in Jawalakhel in 1952,the
Himalayan Inn & Paras inn were already existence at new road.
Mr Booritch,who has successfully organized banquet for 160
royal invitees for coronation of king Mahendra.he
had opened royal hotel in 1956.i n the same year Mr Tom Mandish who was working
as a manager for Mr Nara Samser opened
snow view hotel at lazimpat.in 1964 Mr Ramshankar opened green hotel at new
road, Shankar Hotel at Rana Palace,Lazimpat,which was the first 4 star Hotel in
Nepal.
In the same year Hotel Dela' Annapurna came as a 5 star
hotel .similarly, Blue Star Hotel in 1968 and Hotel Crystal in 1972.
In the year 1997 all
together 421,000 tourist visited Nepal whereas in 1962 the number was 6179.
